Solitude
05:07
|
|||
(Lyrics by Peter Hammill)
Silently I rest in the tall green grass
and look steadily upwards.
Birds sing ceaselessly around me,
and the blue of the sky surrounds me strangely.
Out here, life is at its essence,
and watches the world with innocent eyes;
far from grime, far from rushing people
it seems that I have found a tiny peace.
On the blue backdrop of the unknown
water droplets trace their paths;
on the sky, mortals hang on metal -
but who is to know how long either will last?
The lovely white clouds glide
across the sky and into my dreams.
I feel as though I had died some time ago:
now I'll wander with the clouds through eternal space.

Bravest Face
05:01
|
|||
(Lyrics by Peter Hammill)
Here’s the edge,
this is the moment
when all the fear floods in apace.
Time to clear my head,
my demeanour emboldened,
of trepidation betray no trace.
Time to put on my bravest face.
Quite the nine-stone weakling,
who am I trying to kid
that I can carry all before me
as my heroes did?
Unafraid, oh what I’d give
to walk the walk with my head held high,
to stare down my demons.
But sadly I’m not remotely like
that kind of guy.
Bluster and bravado, every human power,
I summon up what strength I have
to face what cows me down.
Now’s the hour.
Frozen in the spotlight,
frightfully exposed
in my sad efforts to sustain
a heroic pose.
Though I’m scared as hell
still I know it’s only natural
to feel so vulnerable and alone:
in extremis we’re on our own.
It’s time to take my place
and hold my head up,
time to wear with grace
my bravest face.

(Lyrics by Peter Hammill)
I was walking in the evening,
I was looking for something good, clean,
fine, pure, straight, but instead I found
the bunker wall and gate.
It was open: I was free. I gave
a token guarantee, though I later knew I
had promised more, with an I.O.U. I could
scarcely score my way...but I herald Apoc-
alypse anyway!
(I was a prime believer in the faith of 'I' -
yellow fever in the cat's eye.)
And it's everything you want/
own/love/hate/touch/dream/trust.
And it's everything you need.
I got a heart like a rocket, I was out of control,
I'd cleaned out my pockets for some luck to show....
Really looking like a hopeless case, I found it
in my hand, it was the Angry Ace.
He wants to talk to me, one on one, he wants to
give me his professional opinion...but
I'm running, I just can't wait, I haven't
got a moment to anticipate; yes, I'm run-
ning, I just can't stop, I've got to get
to the bottom just to get to the top, I've
got the dark alleys and the open skies -
I got the yellow fever from the cat's eye.
I'll let you know how it goes in the ninth life.

Tintagel by the Sea
05:34
|
|||
(Tintagel by the sea)
(Tintagel by the sea)
There's a castle called Tintagel by the sea.
(Tintagel by the sea)
And it's part of King Arthur's history.
(King Arthur's history)
Merlin the magician used to live here in the caves.
Practising his spells and contemplating the waves.
(At Tintagel by the sea)
One night on the beach he had a shock.
(One night he had a shock)
For he found a little babe among the rocks.
(He found a babe among the rocks)
His magic told him he'd be king and not just any knave.
He called the baby Arthur and taught him to be true, strong and brave.
(At Tintagel by the sea)
Because King Arthur would always fight for right.
(Yes King Arthur would fight for right)
His sword was called Excalibur and it could never break.
But he got tired of fighting so he threw it in a lake.
When a hand came up and caught it, he knew that he'd made a mistake.
(yes he knew he'd made a mistake)
He had one more battle to fight against the knights who were so cruel.
He won that and all the vassals said he was the best king who ever ruled.
(The best king who ever ruled)
If you come to Tintagel now, there aren't really any knights.
But there are lots of jolly people and the castle's, the castle is very nice.
But now the time came for Arthur to sail away.
In a boat disappearing across the bay.
But if the realm meets disaster King Arthur will come back again.
But if the realm meets disaster King Arthur will come back again.
