or lay a smooth path for your feet.
So you could walk upon it, to and fro, but no - it does not show.
The path's not to be seen, no - it will not show.

believing you are unblemished, a saint...
(well, clean for sure)
Somehow the water does not hold you,
and as you make your step and plunge into the water
you feel your foot's been pierced with pain,
that's one of all those stones you threw long time ago.
