There are so many things which meet each other in this choice of ours. One of them is that ‘The Quiet Zone/The Pleasure Dome’ was my very first LP, and I got it from Ash as a gift many years ago. It was him again who insisted on including it, and carried this one until the end, checking, correcting, demanding and inspiring the rest of us. “But can we get such a violin?”, I asked him before we started. “Just wait and you will see!”, he replied. I consider this track as a double tribute – to both the creative geniuses of Peter Hammill and Graham Smith, and to the brilliance of Nic Potter’s performance.

In contrast to many other names on this album, this trio is not a permanent recording/performing band. Mikayel asked his long-time friend Ashot “O’Corrigain” Korganyan to suggest a few songs for the album and to play drums and percussions.

Ash has been playing in many various bands for years, Oaksemham and The Bambir being the most successful among the rest. In his turn, Ash invited Rim Mirzoyan to express her passion for rock music in one of the tracks. She is a professional violinist and plays at National Opera and Ballet Theatre of Armenia, and at State Youth Orchestra of Armenia.Having got the successful results of the first recording sessions, Mikayel decided to start another season of recordings in the same direction and with contribution from his friends.

The extended pH/VdGG tribute has just entered its post-production state. Time will show whether some new band’s core is being formed, or that will be another project “on occasion of”, but this Tribute has reinforced their creative strengths.

Mikayel Abazyan Yerevan, Armenia

Born on July 9, 1971.
Self-trained playing piano, guitar and later - bass, which allowed me playing and making a few recordings with various bands in Yerevan.
In 2014, joined a special project dedicated to the music of Peter Hammill and Van der Graaf Generator, which brought me back to studio work. Having released yet another successful solo tribute, started producing my own music.
